How can I start a Conspiracy cell in my community?
Any cartoonist can start a local cell and call it part of the Cartoonist Conspiracy with or without our blessing. We do hope that you will let us know about your cells though, so they can be promoted appropriately on the Conspiracy website (or so we can link to your website).
The Minneapolis cell was started primarily by making a website and putting up flyers that announced the first meeting in places cartoonists were likely to frequent (coffee shops, comic book stores, art schools, bars, etc.), and by the instigator harassing anyone he knew who drew funny pictures to show up. You can download a example poster, flyer and sticker sheet here, which you are free to use and alter as appropriate, or (a better alternative) you can create your own posters and stickers.
Once you have announced the first meeting, hopefully some folks will show up (I think we had about eight folks at our first meeting). Make sure to bring plenty of pencils, pens and paper for folks to draw with, and bring a sign up sheet for peoples' contact information, so you can send them announcements for future meetings. If you want to, encourage them to sign up on our website as well, so they can receive propaganda from us in their email and use our message boards.
We suggest you determine a good time and place to meet monthly, as having a regular routine tends to help groups stay active.
Also, you will probably want to contact us so we can set up a section of the message board for your cell of the Conspiracy to use and post current news and information about your cell.
You are also greatly encouraged to create a web site for your local Conspiracy cell with meeting information and member work that we can link to.
For further information, please refer to the FAQ.

Sounds good. Aside from the semantics and possibly the lack of any formal structure to the doodling that happens at a cartoonist conspiracy cell meeting, would not a 'Comix Jam' as we call them here in Montr?al be the same thing? _________________ max

Indeed, that would be exactly what it is... we use the same terminology in these parts as well... |

well...in that case I?d like to register the MMCJ as the local Cell of your noble conspiracy thingy!
Marm?lade is the name of the core collective run group that now runs the Jams here [for the pre-Marm?lade history you'll find a link outlining the jams history in Montr?al here http://www.grenadinerecords.com/jam/howto.html
And feel free to plunder our site for any resources. _________________ max

| You should be all set Salgood... I have a section set up for your cell in the Conspiracy Cell section of the board index & I set up a usergroup with you as the moderator. I look forward to checking out your links in further detail... I'll get some links up to your stuff in the links section soon as well. |

I've just recently moved to San Francisco and would really dig doing a cartoonist conspiracy cell out here, but I'm not sure if a jam comic collective already exists out here.
I've asked at all the local shops and get the same answer "How the hell would I know? I just sell comics". I've been searching online and have turned up no results on google. But I still have this feeling that theres gonna be some group already here. And I'd rather work with some existing group. So does anybody have any places they can think of to check to see if there are any SF groups? I don't go to any other comic web boards, so if somebody knows a good one to check on I'd appreciate it.
Word to my homies in the cold cold midwest,

Hello there,
I am opening a small indie print shop/art gallery/publishing company in Rice, MN. I'm too poor and lazy to drive all the way to the Cities or even to the St. Cloud Kinko's, but I can give decent discounts for printing, free space for meetings, and I am willing to pimp the conspiracy in the Central MN area. I would even love to go on a yearly roadtrip to meet my Minneapolitan denizens. I've never done this, and I learned about it through my friend on LJ, but I think it's a good idea and I want to start a cell in my otherwise dull little town. I need help, but that's nothing my shrink hasn't told me already. :D
Cheers,
Vas

Actually, I never received any information, and I am certain Misty will be completely confused if she does. I just posted her 'zine submission info for comic artists who are interested. I am Vanesa/Vas at vanesa(at)vaslittlecrow(dot)com. |

We got some folks in Chicago getting together to start a cell, nobody like Ware or Brunetti, but y'know, we got skills.
If anyone's interested, PM me. _________________ Oh can we love recklessly!

Somebody should help me start a cell in Sioux Falls, SD, if anybody else is interested.
I keep hoping to rally the local cartoonists...but most of them keep moving away! _________________

Hello everyone.I think I found this site on a random search for comics.
Like the idea of cell groups and would like any tips for getting one going.
I live in a small city (Springfield IL) and could use any ideas you have.
Thanks
