7000 BC at Bubonicon 43

Bubonicon 43 | Friday, August 26-Sunday, August 28 | The Sheraton Albuquerque Airport| Albuquerque, NM

7000 BC returns to Albuquerque’s annual science fiction and fantasy convention Bubonicon. We’ll be back in the dealers room with a table full of comics from the group.

Jeff will present a history and appreciation of Monsters in Comics on Saturday at 1:00 and our friends Robert and Amanda will discuss what goes into inventing a language Friday at 7:00, both in the Rio Grande Room. Full programming information is here.

We’ll also continue our tradition of creating a drawing of 43 rats — live, in front of your eyes — to be raffled off on Sunday night, with the winner to be drawn as the final rat; tickets available at the table.

Join us for an afternoon of socializing, planning, talking about — and maybe even making — comics. July’s 7000 BC meeting will be at New York Pizza Department on the northwest corner of 2nd and Central.

Start time is 1:00, which means that anyone coming from Santa Fe can ride the Rail Runner to the meeting.

We especially hope to see all the people we met at ACE — new members are always welcome. Send an email with any questions, or check out the new Membership page.

7000 BC Panels at ACE

7000 BC presents two panels at ACE. On Saturday, uncover the rich history and compelling future of small press publishing. And on Sunday, learn how to make your own comics in a high-energy workshop.

Independent Comics
Saturday, June 25 12:30–2:00
Panel Room B

Independently produced comics have been on the rise for decades, ranging from commercially successful titles like Bone to the guy scribbling minis in his basement. With this panel we’ll explore the broad spectrum of indy comics, looking at indy history, creators’ rights, creating for kids and adults, the relationship between comics and other arts, and more.

PANELISTS:
Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother, Beasts of Burden, Sandman)
Larry Welz (Cherry, Captain Guts, 7000 BC)
Enrique “sykryk” Martinez (Syk, Birthmarks, Comboy, 7000 BC)
Jon Peters (Gypsy, Forty Winks, Squidworks)
Stephen McCranie (Mal and Chad)

MODERATOR:
Jeff Benham (Peoplings, The Salmonilla Chronicles, 7000 BC)

Create Your Own Comic
Saturday, June 26 11:00–12:30
Panel Room A

Words and images on a page? Put ‘em together and you get a comic book! Can it be that simple? Find out what makes comics tick (and CRASH! and BOOM! and hissssss) when New Mexico’s own sykryk conducts an informative, hands-on workshop on the comic book creation process. The emphasis is on storytelling – not draftsmanship – so even if you can only draw stick figures, you can make a compelling comic. Kids of all ages are welcome.

INSTRUCTOR:
Enrique “sykryk” Martinez (Syk, Birthmarks, Comboy, 7000 BC)

7000 BC at Albuquerque Comic Expo

Albuquerque Comic Expo (ACE) | June 24–26 | Friday and Saturday, 10:00–7:00; Sunday, 10:00–6:00 | Albuquerque Convention Center | Albuquerque, NM

7000 BC is pleased to be a part of the inaugural Albuquerque Comic Expo, New Mexico’s premier comic book, pop culture and entertainment event.

For the first time ever, some of the biggest names in comics will join publishers, dealers, gamers, collectors, fan organizations, and more at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

This is our chance to build a major comic convention in New Mexico, so show your support and attend.

7000 BC will have a booth on the main floor, and many of our members and friends will have tables in Artist Alley. We’ll be updating our site with a list of can’t-miss comic creators, writers, and artists as the convention gets closer.

There’s still some space in Artist Alley — if you’re interested, we know a guy. Send an email.

Albuquerque Comic Expo

The first Albuquerque Comic Expo will be held June 24–26 at the Albuquerque Convention Center. There’s a terrific list of guests and exhibitors — and the Artist Alley is shaping up to be a great crowd.

7000 BC is encouraging our small press colleagues to join us at the show and make a strong showing for independent comics. Many of our members have their own tables, but 7000 BC will have a booth on the main show floor — and we plan on using it to show comics from our friends and point attendees to their table.

There’s registration info on the site — but we’ve got special pricing, so please send an email and/or leave a comment if you’re interested.

Join us — and bring your comics to a new audience.
