The Graphic Novel Today
a talk by Mark Siegel, editor of First Second Books

Friday, February 25th, 6:30 pm
Minneapolis College of Art and Design
2501 Stevens Avenue, Minneapolis

Come learn about the blossoming medium of graphic novels with a renowned editor, who will talk about the history of the art form, current trends, and the future of comics, which are now in their new golden age. Reception to follow!

In 2006, Mark Siegel launched First Second Books to publish graphic novels with talent from all over the world. In its first year, their release American Born Chinese became the first comic ever nominated for a National Book Award, and soon afterwards, the first to win the coveted librarians’ Printz Award. Many beloved cartoonists make up First Second’s stellar author line-up, from Sara Varon to Scott McCloud, Jessica Abel to Paul Pope, Eddie Campbell to Joann Sfar, and many others—including seasoned talents and newcomers, with projects in fiction and non-fiction, for children and for adults. In addition to his work on First Second, Siegel has illustrated several award-winning books (Seadogs, Long Night Moon, To Dance) and is currently serializing a graphic novel online (www.sailortwain.com)

The meetings are open to anyone who wants to draw with us, and the results are posted here sooner or later (and sometimes even printed).
