Dear cartoonists,

Here are some exciting events and opportunities coming up at our favorite gallery in Nordeast Minneapolis, Altered Esthetics.

June 30 — deadline to apply to Altered Esthetics 2012 Solo Exhibition Program

July 1 7:00-10:00pmHope of the Union opening reception

Wenesday, July 20th, 6:30-8:30pm“Hot and Bothered” Suit Up – costumed figure drawing! Practice drawing the human figure in a variety of poses, with a variety of fabrics. You can even be a model if you want! Suggested donation $3.

Wednesday, July 27th, 6:30-8:30pmFraming 101 workshop at AE. Learn about materials and techniques needed to showcase your work in the best way possible. Suggested donation $5.

If you are planning on joining in the fun at AE this Saturday, please note that the times have changed! The Arty Garage Sale will be starting at noon, not 7am. Peruse the schedule below for more info.

Saturday, June 18th — Bike Art Festivities!

Altered Esthetics’ 6th annual bike art show brings together some of the Twin Cities’ largest communities…artists, cyclists, and those who love both! Join us in creating another amazing exhibit of bike-themed photography, painting, sculpture and interactive art.

The opening reception is over, but there is still lots of bikey fun to be had:

Altered Esthetics is a nonprofit 501(c)3 community gallery run by artists, for artists. Bringing together dimensional art, music, poetry, performance art, and film, we are one of the most creatively diverse galleries in the Twin Cities. Altered Esthetics holds group-shows so that multiple artists of all backgrounds can display their perspectives on a given theme, and works to sustain the historical role of artists as a true voice of society through exhibits, events, services, workshops, and programs.

Call for Film Entries

IFP MN and the Walker are looking for short films (30 minutes or less) made in the last couple years to be featured on TPT. “The showcase is a series of three one-hour broadcasts on TPT, featuring short films by Minnesota filmmakers of all levels of filmmaking experience.” There is no fee to apply, but the deadline is coming up soon–June 16th! Germ Warfare! still accepting submissions

Submit! Shlubmit! Blubmit!
Germ Warfare submissions have started rolling in, and so far this is shaping up to be a fabulously entertaining book. If you have ideas but haven’t gotten them on paper yet, fear not–you still have some time, but the April 26th deadline will be here before we know it.

Donate Work for AE’s 7th Birthday Celebration

As discussed on The Geek Report’s St. Paddy’s Day Show, Altered Esthetics’ is turning 7 this spring, and is requesting art donations for the silent auction. (specs listed here)
As you know, AE and the Cartoonist Conspiracy go together like peanut butter and honey. Show your support by donating a mini-comic, or a book, or a small print or painting! Your work will be exhibited during the celebration and auctioned off, and auctioned off so that the gallery can raise money for another year of group exhibits, workshops, the solo exhibitions program, and other exciting stuff.

Suit Up AE

Altered Esthetics in Northeast Minneapolis is offering some exciting workshops and events. The third Wednesday of every month is costume drawing night! This is a good chance to practice drawing fabrics with a variety of weights and textures. Go draw! Or go model! And–BONUS–if you go next week, you can take in the Fanboi show between poses.
