The Lutefisk Sushi Volume D show is coming up this August… and we’re already thinking about what we want to for our collaboration with Altered Esthetics for NEXT year. Let’s get it figured out shall we?
Here are some of the many possible ideas we have discussed for next year’s comic art show, in no particular order:
PUBLIC DOMAIN BOOK — Wherein each artist illustrates a chapter from a public domain book.
ANTHOLOGY — An anthology of some sort. Â Specific topic and printing details TBD.
COMIC COOKBOOK — Spiral bound cookbook with recipes and art submitted by artists. Â Could cook some of the dishes during the opening. Â Categories can be split among the potential artists based on last name just like when dividing up a potluck (e.g. A-D salads, E-J meats, etc.).
LOOSE SHEETS — Each artist makes a multi-page comic and they are bound like loose leaf newspaper pages, or in a 3-ring binder.
SONG COMICS — Each artist picks a favorite song and creates a comic based on this song.  This allows for maximum flexibility as artists may create whatever type of comic art they want. Musicians could cover some of these songs during the opening.  We could produce a “mix tape” list to give out (people would have to purchase their own songs). Karoake?  — Comic – Oke.
SCRIPT SWAP — Artists could draw comics based on other people’s scripts. Â This would give comic writers a chance to collaborate with local artists. Â We could also create comics based on the scripts of young children, which could get pretty hilarious.
EDUCATIONAL COMICS –Each artist makes an educational strip on a subject of their choosing.
COMIC POSTER ART — Partner with poster artists who would print comics designed by cartoonists.
Suggest ideas you would like to participate in in the comments below, and we’ll discuss and vote on them very soon on the message board.
Over 50 Minnesota cartoonists made the deadline for Lutefisk Sushi Volume D… you can see the list of contributors here (note if you contributed and do not see your name on that list, please let us know).
Whether or not you made that deadline, there is another way you can participate in the Lutefisk Sushi Volume D show. The show will also include a vending machine filled with boxes of teeny-tiny minicomics, and you do not even have to live in Minnesota to make one!
little funny series II is intended as a prominent “sideshow†to the Lutefisk Sushi Volume D project. little funny is a series of mini-comics sold in an old cigarette vending machine at Altered Esthetics. The first series was compiled in conjunction with the BIG FUNNY show in 2009.

The first series was compiled in conjunction with the BIG FUNNY show in 2009, and it is almost sold out… it is time to restock the machine.
No entries will be rejected provided they follow the specs (these comics need to be a specific size to fit inside the boxes in the vending machine). You do not have to be a Minnesota artist to participate.
You can view pictures of little funny series I here.
You can see what the vending machine looks like here.
Additionally, we have a limited number of vending slots available for people who would like to vend a non-little funny comics project from the machine. All projects will need to fit in a 3†x 2†x 1†box. Email tonytudisco (at) alteredesthetics.org for more information on this opportunity.

This post stolen from Local Hero Kevin Cannon at the Big Time Attic blog… note that you can still build a car for the show and bring it to the gallery to compete on Saturday.
I was never in Boy Scouts as a kid, but I would have considered joining had I known that they get to sit around and race cars all day. The only thing I had was Odyssey of the Mind competitions, where we had to use teamwork and teacher supervision to build a car to solve some sort of science problem. The only problem I wanted to solve was how to kick the competition’s ASS. And I wanted to do it ALONE.
That’s why the new show at Pink Hobo Gallery is so rewarding. Twenty years out of elementary school and I finally have a legitimate excuse to build and race a car. Granted, I ended up going the artsy-fartsy route and built a car with non-functioning wheels. But the rest of the cars will be racing. And there will be cheering. And screaming. And blood. Well, maybe not blood, but there will definitely be wine.
OPENING RECEPTION
PLACE: Pink Hobo Gallery
ADDRESS: 507 East Hennepin Ave, Mpls, MN
DATE: Saturday, September 19, 2009
TIME: 7pm (Race starts at 10pm)

And the winnah is… Danno Klonowski, by a nose!
The people have spoken! Danno will be the featured artist in Lutefisk Sushi Volume D (or LSD, as we like to call it), coming to Altered Esthetics next summer. Congratulations, Danno!
Thanks to all the participating artists who agreed to be nominees… any of you would have been great choices.
I’m excited we had so many people vote (36)… since everyone who voted intends to participate, it should be a very full box! Everyone, start drawing your minis… now!
Please join us Friday, August 28th for food, drinks and music!

So far in the comments on the post the other day asking for suggestions on what to do as a follow up to BIG FUNNY for next year’s Conspiracy show at Altered Esthetics, it has been unanimous for doing Lutefisk Sushi Volume D.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with our three previous Lutefisk Sushi shows (A B C), they have featured the work of any Minnesota cartoonists who choose to participate (we had 50 last time). The shows are focused around a limited-edition, hand-silkscreened box stuffed full of mini-comics by Minnesota artists.
Whatever form the next show ends up taking, we are looking to have some other folks get involved in putting it together. Email Local Hero Kevin Cannon at Kevin at bigtimeattic.com to volunteer your services.
Each Sushi show has also had a featured artist. We want to figure out who this will be for next year pretty quick so we can feature their work on next year’s Altered Esthetics calendar. Any cartoonist planning on participating in the show can nominate any Minnesota cartoonist they wish to. To do so, email me (webmaster at cartoonistconspiracy.com) their name, and ideally their email address, sometime before August 25th. Please use the header “SUSHI NOMINATION” in your email. I’ll contact the artist, if possible, and see if they are interested. If I can’t contact them, I’ll let you know. We will vote on the nominated artists who are interested in the near future to determine which one will be the featured artist in the show.
If you think Lutefisk Sushi Volume D is a terrible idea and have another suggestion, now is the time to bring it up in the comments below.
I just put up a gallery of photos of all the issues in the little funny sideshow, which you can see here.
little funny is an ongoing series of mini-comics boxed and sold out of an old cigarette vending machine.
The little funny set 1 box sets each contain 6 accordion-style mini-comics.
The 6 comics in a set 1 box are randomly selected from the 29 issues in the first set.
Boxes sell for $2 each.
They are only sold out of a vending machine currently housed at Altered Esthetics gallery.
They will make their premiere at the BIG FUNNY show opening this Friday, August 7th, 2009.
