Read: Sing! Dance! Wrestle! from the CCSF
Well, it’s been a while since your artist pals in San Francisco uploaded some comics for you to read, but today we are going to change that.
This is the ‘Wrestling’ zine we created a few months ago. Artist teamed up and each was responsible for one of the characters and their actions. The process is very much like in 2D drawn animation where each artist/team handles one character only.

And here is the awsome cover by Jaime Crespo
SFCC – collaborations: arm wrestling, dancing and more!
Last Thursdays meeting of the Cartoonist Conspircy in San Francisco was a new challenge for us. Following the lead of member Miromi, we did some arm wrestling and dancing. Well our drawings did that is.
Miromi writes:
Here are arm wrestling experiments that mutated into singing and dancing adventures from the Cartoonist Conspiracy San Francisco jams as well as the Rock Paper Scissors Zine Workshops. The activity of making comics is a loner’s world, and collaborations don’t occur so often. It’s a joy to be able to jam with other artists when the opportunity arises much the same way musicians jam…
Miromi provided us with Xeroxed simple backgrounds with lots of blank space that two to three people would add characters too. So one person would draw their character and then pass the drawing to someone else to add another character. Through back and forth working scenes and stories formed that were really fun. The process resembled classic 2D animation key-frames in many ways. To the inspiration from France: http://www.succursale.org/championnat/
You can see our work as a slideshow on Flickr with a zine hopfully coming soon. There is also a link to a jam at the Rock paper Sissors coop as well.
It’s best to watch these as a slideshow, although flickr has some fine thumbnailng on the set as well.

24 Hour Comic Book Jam in San Francisco CA, October 18th – 11 am to 11 am
Well, it’s that time of year when artist take on the night (and morning) to create unique comic works. It’s time for the official 24 Hour Comic Book Day.
Your artist pals form the Cartoonist Conspiracy in San Francisco have joined forces with Comics Outpost to take on this unique challenge where artist work to complete a 24 page comic in 24 hours.
Crazy…..yes, of course. But an excellent challenge none the less.
On August 31st, 1990, Scott McCloud (Understanding Comics), originator of the 24 Hour comic concept, completed his first creative marathon. On April 24th, 2004 Nat Gertler organized the first 24HCD bringing together legions of participants all over the world in this annual event. In the years since, thousands have tried and many have succeeded in creating their own 24 hour comics.
So, wouldn’t you like to give it a try. If so, join our smelly/rude/caffeinated band of artist for a day/night of Cartooning fun.
How? We will be hosting up to 20 artists at our event, and we are requiring a $5 donation to reserve a space (this is going to Gary at CO to cover his expenses). To reserve a space, contact Doc Pop at (yoyogenius at gmail.com).
Time/Date: 11am Sat Oct 18th, 2008 to 11am Sunday Oct 19th
Location: Comics Outpost – 2381 OCEAN AVE. SAN FRANCISCO, CA. 94127 (415) 239-COMX (2669) – http://www.comicoutpost.net/
